Small stories,
told with the
force of thunder.

Taran is an independent film studio from South Wales, making bold, character-driven cinema — the kind that’s made on a small scale and lands like a storm.

The idea

Big impact was never
about big budgets. It’s about the story, and the nerve to tell it properly.

01

Small by design

Lean crews, tight budgets, total creative control. Constraint is where the interesting decisions live.

02

Genre with a pulse

Horror, thriller and folk-tinged drama that use their genre to say something — never the other way round.

03

Rooted in place

Stories that grow out of the Welsh landscape and its myths, then travel far beyond the valleys they came from.

The studio

Two decades in the making.

Taran didn’t start yesterday. It grew out of more than twenty years of making films in South Wales — from independent features shot across Welsh hillsides and coastline to senior roles on some of the biggest television dramas the country has produced.

That’s the craft. Now we’re pointing it at films of our own. A new studio, an old obsession: stories that punch far above their weight. The name means thunder — and it’s a promise about the kind of noise a small film can make.

We stayed in Neath on purpose. South Wales is in the middle of a screen-industry boom, and we’d rather help build it here than chase it somewhere else. This is the region that gave the world its share of screen legends. We like the odds.
